Smoke In Your Eyes

In March 1946, the railways were deteriorating, rationing was worsening, and black marketeers were rampant. Violet McIntyre, a dressmaker residing in Woodford Halse, found it increasingly challenging to make ends meet. Her life soon became intertwined with an investigation being conducted by Detective Inspector Charles Vignoles from the Railway Detective Department. Vignoles believed he was making progress in tracking down a gang of money counterfeiters. However, when two young cleaners at the Woodford engine shed made a shocking discovery, the situation quickly spun out of control.

Struggling to comprehend the escalating circumstances, the Inspector's judgment became clouded, just like the smoke from the dirty engines that irritated his eyes. Yet, he knew he could not afford to make a mistake - a woman's life might be at stake!
